i had a really hard time with this assignment and am not too impressed with the results. here's to a better week ... starting now, please.

metal and glass

well, here is an attempt at shooting glass. i most certainly have not mastered the studio yet! but i will enjoy eating the tomatoes if nothing else. this was shot at 1/200sec @ f18 with an ISO of 100. The strobe behind the light table was at 900w and under the subject it was 300w with a reflector clipped to a boom over the subject and angled towards the floor at around 45 degrees or so. i also included an outtake of my attempt at dark field lighting mainly because i love hatch show print and you should, too ;)

these two images were originally shot by the wonderful and amazing william albert allard. in another life i may have been a cowgirl. they were both shot using a copy stand in the studio with a light on either side at a 45 degree angle to the image, with the camera directly above (and level, thank you for the tool box, dad!). the first one caught a bit of glare on the left cowboy's stomach despite our efforts to prevent such occurrences.

the first image is for mood lighting, and the second is the stump the chump (and it also shows a lot of mood through lighting as well). although it doesnt look like he used a lot of lighting tricks in the second one, i am more curious as to how someone would go about shooting in that kind of light in order to create this layered effect with soft lighting in the foreground and such high contrast in the background, but with everything exposed properly. Even the doorframe in front of the two children who are almost in silhouette is exposed clearly, but then only a little bit further back the children are almost completely in shadow.

of dogs and delis

well, this will be my farewell to portland (and vacation) posting and my welcome back to columbia posting, too. for anyone who knows me, it is fitting i spent my last day in portland at the rose city dog show (i am obsessed with dogs and desperately want one of my own when i will actually be home enough to care for him/her) and also with my nearest and dearest at our neighborhood deli, where luci and her dad had an impromptu photo shoot. this is an especially full post, as i had trouble "editing" out any of the dogs, and of course i can look at pictures of luci for hours. now that i am back at school, i will mostly be posting class-related shoots and info for a little while...
